About Us

Immigrant Migrant Women’s Association of Halifax (IMWAH) is a culturally diverse and feminist non-profit organization in Nova Scotia committed to the holistic integration of immigrant, migrant women and girls in the province.

Mission

IMWAH celebrates the contributions and responds to the challenges and unique needs of immigrant and migrant women and girls. 

Vision

A community free of barriers where immigrant and migrant women and girls flourish and belong.

Objectives

  • To bring the voice of im/migrant women into larger movements aiming to improve the wellbeing and progress of Haligonian women.

  • To bring awareness into the larger community of im/migrant women and girls concerns and to do advocacy work.

  • To research and assess situations affecting immigrant/migrant women and girls.

  • To showcase women’s projects, initiatives and contributions to the community.


Approach

IMWAH’s approach to advance gender equality in the economic, social and democratic life of Canada is informed by feminist, intersectional and anti-racist values. IMWAH operates from a holistic and integrated empowerment model focused on promoting women and girl’s leadership. It is engaged in achieving gender equality as a sustainable development goal. To fulfill our mission, IMWAH actively works with a wide range of government and community-based organizations, coalitions and research networks to address women’s equality issues and to facilitate positive policy and social change.
