Established in 2012, the Immigrant Migrant Women’s Association of Halifax (IMWAH) is a culturally diverse and feminist non-profit organization in Nova Scotia committed to the holistic integration of immigrant, migrant women and girls in the province.

About the Circle of Women Project

The Circle of Women project is funded by the Department for Women and Gender Equality (WAGE). This project aims to support immigrant and migrant women experiencing Gender-based Violence (GBV) through a collaborative multi-stakeholder approach. This strategy is designed to strengthen a model of care that involves multiple organizations working together and focused on addressing gender-based violence (GBV) as told by immigrant and migrant women.

To achieve this goal, IMWAH is establishing dynamic partnerships between service providers and involving active community and cultural organizations that support women. This comprehensive approach aims to create a framework that considers the intersecting factors that contribute to GBV, whether it occurs within families, communities, or workplaces.

In addition to these efforts, IMWAH is committed to creating education and awareness resources related to GBV. The education and awareness campaign will see the development of educational materials, resources, and activities tailored to supporting im/migrant women to improve their access to information about migration processes, family law and justice systems, employment regulations and requirements as they experience and work through immigration or workplace challenges.

 About this Opportunity

IMWAH is recruiting a Project Assistant under the Circle of Women project. The Project Assistant will be responsible for developing the educational materials outreach plan, and activities for the project. Within this scope, the assistant will assist in delivering Gender-Based Violence (GBV) advocacy resources and facilitating sessions to meet project objectives. This role will coordinate policy review and resource analysis strategic plan; the project assistant will attend external meetings and engagements to increase IMWAH's community presence, support partnership building, and raise awareness for issues and needs emerging from IMWAH's programming and research, particularly regarding and support the Board in producing recommendations to increase equity, inclusion and well-being of immigrant migrant women and girls in Nova Scotia.

To support IMWAH's advocacy effort and its strategic plan, the project assistant will attend external meetings and engagements to increase IMWAH's community presence, support partnership building, and raise awareness for issues and needs emerging from IMWAH's programming and research, particularly when it comes to GBV.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Project Coordinator, this position will encompass the following areas (percentage may vary based on tasks at hand):

·        Outreach Activities (40%)

·        Resource and Educational Materials Development (30%)

·        Advocacy Engagement and Partnership Building (30%)

To achieve this, the Project Assistant will:

·        Coordinate meetings with targeted partners and GBV awareness program participants across four Nova Scotia regions.

·        Assist with developing and facilitating awareness and advocacy GBV educational materials in line with IMWAH's Feminist Intersectional Advocacy Framework, the needs of im/migrant women as they settle in Canada and other advocacy resources.

·        Research current immigrant/migrant women serving groups in Nova Scotia and coordinate consultations with service providers.

·        Represent IMWAH on external committees to enhance GBV knowledge networks and attend relevant engagements alongside the Project Coordinator.

·        Other administrative tasks as required.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a committed self-starter with the following qualifications and skills:

·        Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Adult Education, Public Health, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

·        2-5 years experience in end-to-end Program Management, particularly in Gender Based. Violence (GBV) Prevention, Education and Awareness campaigns or other social impact issues.

·        Strong working knowledge of human rights and gender-based violence issues, findings, and best practices.

·        Deep understanding and sensitivity to issues affecting women in rural and urban immigrant and refugee communities through settlement pathways in Canada.

·        A proven track record of delivering high-impact, innovative programming, information sessions and workshops.

·        Demonstrated experience leading and working with collaborative, high-functioning project teams, including a highly engaged board of directors.

·        Strong cross-cultural verbal/written communication and presentation skills, and exceptional interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, and ability to establish genuine rapport with internal and external groups.

·        High initiative, adaptability, and commitment to quality and demonstrated ability to meet multiple competing deadlines.

·        Schedule flexibility to accommodate variations outside regular business hours, as needed.

·        A driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are required for this position, as travel is required.

·        Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Office Skills and Google Suite experience and some familiarity in developing multi-media resources, publications, and materials.
