IMWAH is excited to invite 3-5 women to join our Board! 

If you:

Identify as a first or second generation immigrant or migrant woman

Are willing to contribute to an emerging non-profit serving immigrant migrant women and girls in Nova Scotia

Are able to commit an average of 5-8 hours a month

We welcome applications from all compassionate and committed individuals. Though not required, we are certainly interested in women with the following skills:

Fundraising

Grant Writing

Legal

Health and Social Work

Networking and Event Planning

Financial management

Why Volunteer on Our Board?

Volunteering on the IMWAH Board of Directors provides an opportunity to build experiences in the non-profit sector, network with like-minded peers, gain familiarity on issues facing our communities and help IMWAH to continue support immigrant migrant women and girls in Nova Scotia.

About the Board

 

Our Board currently consists of seven Board of Directors. Our Board, staff and volunteers are first and second generation immigrant and migrant women working closely with women and girls in Nova Scotia at different stages of the migration process.

Our programs and initiatives are led by volunteer committees and carried out by staff, paid facilitators and volunteers.

General Responsibilities

 

The Board of IMWAH is responsible for the stewardship of the Association by establishing appropriate governance and risk management strategies. These strategies are created and maintained to:

  • Ensure promotion of IMWAH’s Mission, Vision and Values; 

  • Delivery of IMWAH’s strategic objectives and outcomes, 

  • Protection of IMWAH’s assets, and 

  • Cultivation of IMWAH’s long-term growth and viability. 

The Board must uphold IMWAH’s Values and conduct affairs in accordance with the organization’s By-laws, policies and guidelines. 

As a working board, the Board acts as the Executive Director (ED) bearing responsibility for the general management and operation of IMWAH’s affairs. The Board guides, supervises and evaluates staff and volunteers in the execution of Board approved strategies and plans. 

Time Commitment

 

Term

2 Year term with opportunity for re-election.

5-8 hours / month depending on your availability.


Board meeting

Meetings are held 6-8 times/year, once every two months. 

Meetings are held in the evening on the second last Thursday of a month. 

Meetings will be held virtually via Zoom.

Capacity Building Training

IMWAH will be organizing 4-6 Professional Development sessions between 2021-23. Generally, the trainings will be held on weekends as half or full day sessions. Directors are expected to attend these training as per Board of Directors General Responsibilities. IMWAH will be following COVID-19 protocols as per the NS Government. Virtual training will be scheduled as necessary. 

Committee Participation

Board of Directors are required to serve on a minimum of one committee. Committee meeting schedules vary by projects and are planned at the beginning of a project according to the availability of its members. In general, meetings will be held virtually via Zoom.
