Mosaic: Identity and Community Connection

International Women’s Day Art Exhibition

Mosaic: Identity and Community Connection is a community based research project using arts based approach to explore identities and community building with immigrant migrant women. The project included a series of art workshops where women created artworks using techniques such as clay, bookmaking and glass painting.

The project culminated in a traveling exhibition at the Canadian Museum of Immigration and the Craig Gallery featuring a multi-media sculptural collaboration, explores identity from immigrant and migrant women’s perspectives and uses art as a tool for community building.

Led by mixed media artist Miro Davis and anthropologist María José Yax-Fraser, the project features 11 works of art by women from nine different countries of origin. The goal was to create an art exhibit that would enhance the participants' identity, sense of place, belonging and community connection.
